Ömer F. Gürlesin

Ömer F. Gürlesin is a sociologist of religion working on religious, cultural and social change in contemporary Europe. His research examines how religious meanings, moral orientations and forms of authority are formed and contested in everyday life and in public debate, with particular attention to popular religion, Islam in European contexts and, more recently, the place of religious and moral language in environmental and climate discourse.

The work combines survey-based and computational approaches with qualitative discourse analysis, including instrument development and large-scale social media data in Dutch and Turkish. It engages with questions of public discourse, education and social tensions surrounding religion in contemporary societies.
